the low-tech prototype
Take a look at the beginning stages of my product and the feedback that led me closer to the final product!
STEP ONE
Making the model
At this point, I made a visual speech bubble that will go under the Alexa Echo Dot to show not only which statement is being demonstrated, but what Alexa would say after the user responds. There are scripts included for the demonstration as pictured.

STEP TWO
Demonstration & Feedback
In this step I am giving Dr. Toan Dang-Nguyen a demonstration of my low-tech prototype. After both scripts were read, I gained feedback from her that would really impact the solution that was yet to come.
Below is a summary of points Dr. Dang-Nguyen gave me for my final product
-
How will you communicate to everyone about the skill?
-
Who is responsible for "minding" it?
-
Try addressing a common suggestion as a school each week to show that the skill will improve school communication.
-
The use of YouTube to make a how-to tutorial could help anyone learn how to use it if they did not see the demonstration.

MAKING THE SKILLS
This was the ultimate challenge, hover over the pictures to learn more about the process.
The Developer Console
I made both of these skills through the Alexa Skill Developer Console. This was something new for me. I did not anticipate the challenge.
Things to Consider
From the list that Dr. Dang-Nguyen had provided me, I had to consider what parts would work and/or fit into my Alexa skills. For this to work I needed to fulfill them all.
After I successfully made both Alexa skills, I posted them for Certification. This meant that I would not have a fully functioning end product to share with a community partner. But that did not stop me...
SHOWING THE PRODUCT
I sat down with Mr. Larry Johnson to demonstrate how the user would actually interact with the Alexa skill. However, I had to improvise due to my pending certification.
My Focus Group

making adjustments
With the feedback from above, I made a list of the suggested adjustments that I implemented into the final product and who provided me with the feedback:
-
Dr. Toan Dang-Nguyen: Having the common suggestions displayed in morning meeting as a topic for the week to work on as a school.
-
Coach Hecalf: Using the w3schools website to learn JavaScript without stressing out over not knowing how to code an Alexa skill.
-
Mr. Larry johnson: Making a private area for one of the Echo Dot's so if the user is feeling more vulnerable, they can have the comfort of suggesting in private.
-
Jaden Sandlin: Changing the second Alexa skill to fit the simplicity of the user and not worrying about having a third-party manage it.
