INTERPRET Statement

Students need a more practical way to have an active voice in school culture and decisions because I learned that students want to be active in school decisions but don’t feel that is possible.

TO REFLECT...

I have learned through the past steps that I am not my only user, there are other students who have stronger opinions and feelings about student involvement. I have also realized that as I look at the other grades, there is just less interest in school culture and that made me think about how grade and atmosphere impact involvement. There are so many outside factors that I did not relate to but my other users did and that perspective was one that gave me new data. I have a better understanding of my problem now because, in the beginning, I had a very narrow scope of my user and just focused on issues that I was experiencing and later found different factors from different people. I could examine other factors with an unbiased lens now that I had more users.

design principles

Low Stress

This is important because if sharing ideas with other students and adults is a stressful experience, it will make my users feel uncomfortable and less likely to want to speak out about school.

When the solution is more accessible to my users, it can encourage them to participate more and not have to adjust to something that may inconvenience their other time.

Time/Schedule Friendly

The solution needs to show that it works for my users, and if the solution relates to talking about school culture, there has to be a way to do something about it. To put it into action.
